Microbial Motility & Chemotaxis
Enhance microbial motility assays with BioFlux
Shear stressThe tangential force per unit area from flowing fluid; a key parameter in vascular biology, platelet function, leukocyte rolling, and biofilm adhesion studies. has been shown to impact microbial motility. Therefore, the assessment of microbial movement under shear flowFluid movement that applies force to cells and biofilms; used to mimic physiological/pathological conditions. provides more biologically accurate data compared to static assays. BioFlux shear flow systems enable the visualization and quantification of multiple aspects of motility, including twitching, chemotaxis, and escape reactions. Â
Counteracting Bacterial Motility: A Promising Strategy to Narrow Listeria monocytogenes Biofilm in Food Processing Industry
Key BioFlux Advantages For Microbial Motility Studies
- Constant, precise control of shear flow in real time
- Perform multiple experiments by dynamically reversing chemoattractant gradient direction
- Live imaging and software automation to track surface-attached cell motion
- Explore the influence of genetic and morphological factors on motility
- Dual microenvironments within a one channel to conduct chemotaxis investigations in high throughput
Dual flow microenvironments of a BioFlux 24-well plate were used to examine the effects of cell-free supernatant on chemotaxis with and without antibiotics. Left shows twitching towards ciprofloxacin. Middle shows cells in a gradient of cell-free supernatant. Right shows cells in a combined gradient of cell-free supernatant and ciprofloxacin.
