Publication: Valve endothelial cell exposure to high levels of flow oscillations exacerbates valve interstitial cell calcification

Calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD), one of the most prevalent chronic heart problems, involves hardening of aortic valve leaflets due to calcium phosphate deposition, resulting in stenosis, regurgitation, and reduced cardiac output. Rat vascular endothelial cells were conditioned and assayed using a BioFlux shear flow system. The BioFlux assays were used to correlate the level of oscillatory flow to areas of the aorta that are susceptible to calcification.
